Same-day dental implants are made possible by the improved design of mini dental implants.

Conventional dental implants are quite wide, ranging from roughly 3 mm to 5 mm. They consist of multiple components. Traditional implant restoration typically requires multiple appointments over several months. First, we would need to place the traditional implant, which would require a large incision and add trauma to the extraction site. Next, after months of healing, a second component, called an abutment, could be placed on top. Finally, after waiting until you’re fully healed, you can come in for your final restoration. The process effectively completes your smile with functional results. However, it requires that you spend quite a long time without a complete set of teeth.

Same-day implants shorten that timeline without compromising quality. Mini implants make all the difference in the process. These smaller titanium posts are a single unit and are often half the size of conventional dental implants. This design means that placing a mini implant is much less invasive. To place the mini implant, one of our dentists simply makes a small hole in the gums and anchors the post into the jawbone. Because the procedure is so gentle on the surrounding tissues, our dentists can place a functional replacement immediately afterward.

They will attach a temporary crown, bridge, or denture, so you leave the office that same day with a beautiful, complete smile. In a few weeks, you’ll come back for the permanent restoration.
